Well, four games this weekend at Coors Field, and the Mets finally won on Sunday to avoid being swept. Right after the win Sunday I saw a tweet that summed up what I was feeling.
Good news: Mets win Better news: They don’t play any more games at Coors Field this season.

This is not a new feeling for me. Year in and year out the games I enjoy the least are at Coors. It’s just dumb, it’s not baseball, as things tilt so far to the hitter. I can’t enjoy that, I find that watching a game from Coors is more about enduring the game. I honestly believe that if I lived in Colorado I would have given up on the sport by now. I give Rockies fans credit.
Along those lines, the games against the Rockies offer up another reminder of why it is madness that we have a Triple-A team in Las Vegas. We need to get out of there as soon as humanly possible.
Some other post-Cinco de Mayo thoughts:
* Once again, as quickly as we had four able-bodied outfielders, we didn’t. It looks like Eric Young Jr. dodged a bullet and will be fine. I’m not worried about what that will mean, as until I see a sustained period where all of our outfielders healthy there is no issue. We are now over 30 games into the season and it has not occurred.
* Speaking of injured outfielders, estimates are that Bryce Harper will be out of action until July with a thumb injury. A few days earlier Harper had been benched for not hustling. It’s funny with Harper, he is certainly a quality player, but so far you look at what he has done and wonder, “Is that it?” The hype was so big with Harper it will be hard for him to ever live up to it. But then I remember that he is also still only 21 years old, so, there are a lot of chapters still to be written here.
* Let’s see if I have this correct. Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya almost destroyed Jenrry Meija by using him in the bullpen. Meija ended up hurting his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery. Now, this had to be due to the fact that Meija was moved to the bullpen, because pitchers rarely hurt their elbows and almost never need Tommy John surgery. Yeah, right.
Anyway, I’m very happy to see that the Mets are considering moving Montero and DeGrom to the pen. Bullpens matter and we need to consider all of the pitchers in this organization for every role that can help with the major league team. The idea that going to the bullpen will ruin any of these guys is silly.
* One name you have not heard rumored for New York any time soon is Noah Syndergaard, causing Michael Lecolant at Rising Apple to wonder,
“I question whether the Mets are really serious about promoting Syndergaard at all this season.”
The signals that answer that question have been there for me all year. No, they are not.
* The current bullpen reminds me of the old game “Time Bomb” where you got in a circle and tossed a ticking “bomb” around until it exploded in someone’s hands, and then you were out. It’s not if they will explode with this crew, it’s when. Despite this, and despite Ike Davis’s salary moving on to Pittsburgh, it never seemed as if the Mets did more than due diligence before Joel Hanrahan signed with the Tigers. I imagine the conversation went like this,
Sandy: Joel, how would you like to be a New York Met. We are willing to pay you the major league minimum. Joel? Joel? You still there?
* Bud Selig has a lot of faith in the Wilpons. What does that make the total number of people who have faith in them now, Bud?
